BlackGuard uses a bounded authority-and-control analysis designed to produce useful executive findings without turning a client engagement into a theory seminar.
Define the question
Bound the institution, authority-bearing function, time period, trigger event and decision the client needs to make.
Reconstruct the formal structure
Review the records that establish intended authority: bylaws, policies, delegations, contracts, resolutions, job descriptions and relevant rules.
Map authority actually exercised
Identify who makes consequential decisions, approvals, vetoes, interpretations, allocations and enforcement choices in practice.
Map practical control
Determine who can observe, direct, coordinate, constrain, delay, block, override, correct or account for consequential action.
Test dependencies and rival explanations
Examine vendors, contracts, platforms, data systems, funders, boards, legacy relationships and ordinary delegation without presuming dysfunction.
Assess corrective capacity
Identify what the responsible authority can actually change, what recovery would require and what remains structurally constrained.
Deliver bounded findings
Translate the evidence into decision-grade findings and prioritized options: preserve, correct, recover, realign or investigate further.
Useful analysis can begin with public evidence. Internal access depends on authority.
Where evidence permits, BlackGuard can reconstruct substantial portions of an institution's authority and control structure using public records, policies, contracts, filings, governance materials and credible reporting. Executive Governability work may also use bounded institution-authorized internal records and stakeholder access. Independent Governance Analysis does not depend on subject-institution internal access and proceeds from public evidence plus requester-provided evidence BlackGuard is authorized to receive and use.
No black-box scoring.
BlackGuard does not use unvalidated numerical governance scores or confidence percentages. Client-facing conclusions remain tied to evidence, contrary evidence, rival explanations and explicit unknowns.
The labels shown here are commercial reporting shorthand. The controlled IAGD 2.3 research protocol separately preserves evidence status as Documented, Corroborated, Inferred, Contested, or Unknown and finding status as Established, Strongly supported, Supported inference, Indeterminate, or Not supported. Commercial reporting does not replace or revise those research-method classifications.
Client-facing finding classification
Documented — directly supported by reliable records.
Strongly supported — supported by converging evidence.
Provisional — support exists, but material uncertainty remains.
Unresolved — available evidence does not support a settled finding.
Insufficient evidence — the available record cannot support a useful or defensible conclusion.

Institution-authorized commissioning
Default path when the commissioning party acts with authority on behalf of the subject institution and can lawfully authorize the bounded internal evidence or stakeholder access required by the engagement.
Independent commissioning
Default path when the commissioning party is not acting with authority on behalf of the subject institution or the matter is intentionally bounded to public and lawfully requester-provided evidence.
Buyer title alone does not determine the path. Purchasing authority and evidence-access authority are evaluated separately. Both paths retain analytical independence.
Commercial information stays commercial.
Client information does not automatically become academic research data, publication material, conference material, case-study material or training material.
You receive the analysis, not the reusable method.
Client-specific findings, maps and recommendations may be delivered. Underlying research architecture, BlackGuard operating mechanics and reusable methodology remain protected unless expressly authorized in writing.
